On the first day of summer camp, Monday, July 1, 2019, at 11:30 AM, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, Congressman Jim Himes, Norwalk Common Council member Greg Burnett, Doug Adams (Brookfield Properties), Vernece Richardson (King Industries), Stanley Seligson (Seligson Properties), Carver Board members and other Carver leaders and guests gathered together to officially open the new playground at the Carver Community Center.

Join Mayor Rilling and Congressman Himes for our Playground Ribbon Cutting on Monday July 1st at 11:30AM. Following a successful fundraising drive led by student volunteers at New Canaan High School, the new playground is now ready for Carver’s summer camp students to enjoy. Our new playground has all the latest safety and fun learning features for K-5 aged children, including a new padded surface that ties together all the pieces of the playground.

Justin Forde named the 2018-19 Gatorade Connecticut Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year

We have written before about Justin Forde, now a graduated senior at Brien McMahon High School and a former participant of Carver’s after school Youth Development Program. Here is a post about his receiving a full athletic scholarship from the University of Miami. Pizza and cake party for CASPER kids to say goodbye to Dean McCloud

Dean McCloud, Carver Program Assistant in our CASPER after school program, is moving on to a new career in carpentry. Dean has served our CASPER kids with excellence for the past several years. Dean has also worked as a counselor for Carver’s Summer Enrichment Program at the Carver Community Center. Carver kids and staff will miss Dean’s quiet strength and encouraging presence.

Young people and their proud parents came together at the Carver Community Center for our 49th Annual Testimonial Dinner on Friday, June 7, 2019. Each year, the Carver Foundation of Norwalk awards Carver students, including current college students, with scholarships and recognition.

16th Annual Rowayton Connections party raises support and awareness

Hosts Melora and Rod Johnson welcomed dozens of Carver guests into their home at Hickory Bluff overlooking Rowayton’s tranquel view of Long Island Sound. Volunteers and Atria Darien prepared a sumptuous meal for everyone to enjoy. Speakers this year included Mayor Harry Rilling; Carver graduates now in college; the longtime Carver partner and advocate Robert Pennington who was just named the new principal of Rowayton Elementary School; and Carver’s CEO, Novelette Peterkin.
