Donor Privacy Policy
Carver is committed to maintaining the highest level of respect for the privacy of our donors. This policy outlines how we collect, use, protect, and recognize donor information, in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and best practices in nonprofit governance.
How Donor Information Is Used
Carver collects and maintains donor information for the following purposes:
To process donations and generate tax receipts.
To communicate with donors regarding Carver’s programs, events, and impact.
To maintain internal records for reporting, compliance, and analysis.
To satisfy the requirements of U.S. federal and state regulatory agencies.
Payment Security: Credit card and bank account information is used only for donation or payment processing through secure, PCI-compliant systems and is not stored by Carver.
No Sale or Unauthorized Sharing of Personal Information
Carver does not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose donor information to third parties for non-Carver purposes.
Access to donor information is restricted to authorized staff in Development, Finance, and select members of the Board of Directors who require access to fulfill their duties.
Carver may share limited donor information with trusted third-party service providers (such as database, mailing, or payment processing vendors) solely for the purpose of advancing Carver’s mission. All vendors must agree to:
Use information only for the contracted purpose.
Store information securely in compliance with industry standards.
Refrain from reselling, transferring, or disclosing information to other entities.
Carver maintains strict physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure.
Donor Recognition
Unless requested otherwise, donor names may be included in Carver’s recognition materials, including annual reports, newsletters, event programs, or the website. Donation amounts are never disclosed without express permission.
Donors who prefer to remain anonymous or opt out of recognition may notify the Development Office at any time.
Opting Out of Communications
Carver strives to respect donor preferences regarding communications. Donors may at any time:
Request removal from mailing lists or electronic communications.
Specify preferred methods of contact (e.g., email, phone, postal mail).
Requests will be honored promptly.
Data Retention and Accuracy
Carver retains donor records only as long as necessary for legal, accounting, and operational purposes. Reasonable efforts are made to ensure donor information is accurate, complete, and up to date. Donors may review and update their information by contacting the Development Office.
Compliance With Laws and Standards
Carver consistently meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance and maintains top ratings from Charity Navigator and Candid/Guidestar. Carver complies with all applicable U.S. and State privacy, tax, and charitable solicitation laws and strives to adhere to recognized best practices in data protection.
