About Carver

Our Mission
The Carver’s mission is to equip all learners for global competitiveness by leading strategic partnerships with schools and communities that advance excellence and growth opportunities.

A Vision for Thriving Communities

Here at Carver, we are creating a world where all people thrive. We help cultivate future business leaders, artists, educators, scientists, and entrepreneurs who will transform the world for generations to come. Children reach their fullest potential, and parents, caregivers, and entire communities are supported.

At Carver, we know what works. Research shows that when education is supported, we can have a lasting impact. Every day, Carver empowers more than 3,000 students, parents, and teachers to achieve their goals, building stronger schools, families, and communities in the process.

Our Impact

Carver is proud of measurable, long-term results that demonstrate the difference we make:

  • Since 2005, 100% of Carver seniors have graduated on time.

  • The majority are first-generation college students.

  • College Success: From 2010 to 2020, 85% of Carver college students earned bachelor’s degrees within six years, far exceeding national averages. 88% of Carver scholarship recipients complete degrees or certificates, compared to a national completion rate below 60%.

  • Workforce Readiness: $285K in wages paid to 248 interns since 2022 across hospitals, schools, and nonprofits.

  • In 2025, 32 graduating seniors earned admission to selective colleges, including Howard, Wellesley, Penn State, UConn, and the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Carver develops future leaders who change the world. Our alumni are now thriving as teachers, engineers, nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and innovators—proof that Carver’s investment in young people creates generational impact.

Programs that Work

Carver before- and after-school programs operate in all Norwalk public schools (elementary, middle, and high), Side By Side Charter School, the Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport, and the Carver Community Center.

Our highly collaborative programs:

  • Improve academic achievement, socio-emotional functioning, engagement, and attendance.

  • Build positive self-perceptions, school bonding, and pro-social behaviors.

  • Align with in-school curricula and are led by certified daytime teachers.

  • Offer Project-Based Learning in STEAM subjects, sometimes involving international collaborations.

  • Provide free transportation, family engagement, recreational and wellness opportunities, and cultural enrichment.

Kenneth Shuler (FNX) and Gabbie Pierre-Louis are Carver alumni. Kenneth is a local banker, and Gabbie is a professional singer while studying to be a dentist. Together with Carver students they created this music video.

Students typically participate throughout their K–12 years, achieving smooth grade-level transitions while enjoying a safe, supervised environment that fosters resilience, creativity, and leadership.
