Here is an excerpt from a Nancy on Norwalk article about Ms. Faioes’ promotion.
“This role is charged with improving the district’s portfolio of schools by leading intervention, developing robust choice schools and programs, and assistant principals and administrators with school improvement plans,” according to a statement in the packet for Tuesday’s BoE meeting.
Faioes fills the role formerly held by Patty Foley, who passed away in September. Arlene Gottesman has served as interim director.
Faioes has been Brookside principal for four years, as the school advanced to a category 2 rating in the Connecticut State Accountability Report. “During this period, she also successfully completed a RELAY fellowship as a member of Norwalk’s first cohort. As part of the district’s commitment to building capacity and ensuring continuity, Faioes was also selected to work closely with the district’s Chief of School Operations over the past year,” the statement says.
She previously served as Brookside curriculum and instruction site director, “responsible for ensuring quality implementation of the literacy and math curriculum, as well as SRBI,” the NPS statement says. “She also oversaw the assessment system, professional development, and conducted classroom observations. Additionally, she supported parents and students in understanding curriculum, progress reports and district initiatives.”
Before joining Brookside, Faoies was Norwalk Pathways Academy instructional coach and reading specialist. She previously worked for Boston Public Schools, where she served as the interim humanities program director, and literacy coach for the district’s Secondary English Language Arts Department, and also as a member of the common core standards workgroup design team and subject work team leader. She is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole.
