Here are hundreds of photos taken over one day while visiting various Carver summer programs. See the joy, discoveries, friendships, and fun experienced at Columbus Magnet School, the Carver Community Center, at the Nathan Hale Middle School talent show and awards, and at West Rocks Middle School where the summer transition students are watching "Bridge to Terebithia" following a pizza party (a movie based upon the novel read by the kids this summer).
Carver students attend Derek Jeter’s annual leadership conference
Three Carver students attended the 2019 Jeter’s Leaders Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, accompanied by Carver CEO, Novelette Peterkin. The conference, presented by Goldman Sachs in Philadelphia, began on Monday, August 5th and concluded on Thursday, August 8th. More than 240 high school students from across the country joined former MLB star Derek Jeter and a host of speakers and workshop leaders for this life changing experience.
Parent Night at the Carver Community Center

Summer campers go fishing in Long Island Sound
A Carver donor sponsored a charter fishing boat to take our Summer Enrichment Program campers at Columbus Magnet School and the Carver Community Center out on the water to try their skill and luck every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They depart at 1PM and return at 5PM. Carver kids are discovering nature up-close and personally this summer!

Today, Carver campers attending our Summer Enrichment Program at the Carver Community Center and Columbus Magnet School are spending the day at Lake Compounce (ages 7 to 13) and Playland Park (ages 5 to 6).

Stepping Stones teaches Carver summer students how to build a Rube Goldberg machine
Stepping Stones Museum for Children staff visited West Rocks Middle School to teach rising 6th graders how to build a Rube Goldberg machine.
This is a machine intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overcomplicated fashion. Often, these machines consist of a series of simple devices that are linked together to produce a domino effect, in which each device triggers the next one, and the original goal is achieved only after many steps.
Beardsley Zoo visits Carver's rising sixth graders in our summer transition program
Carver summer transition programs are designed to help incoming 6th and 9th grade student’s transition into Norwalk’s four middle and two high schools. Programming includes individualized instruction, parental involvement, small group learning experiences, diverse enrichment activities, free transportation, and full-day activities benefiting working families. Students learn the basics of navigating their respective new schools.
Today, Beardsley Zoo visited our students who are transitioning into West Rocks Middle School. They brought some great animals like a frog, giant cockroach, ringed doved, a python and a bunny.
