Following a successful fundraising drive led by student volunteers at New Canaan High School, the new playground is now ready for Carver’s summer camp students to enjoy it.
Pizza and cake party for CASPER kids to say goodbye to Dean McCloud
Dean McCloud, Carver Program Assistant in our CASPER after school program, is moving on to a new career in carpentry. Dean has served our CASPER kids with excellence for the past several years. Dean has also worked as a counselor for Carver’s Summer Enrichment Program at the Carver Community Center. Carver kids and staff will miss Dean’s quiet strength and encouraging presence.

16th Annual Rowayton Connections party raises support and awareness
Hosts Melora and Rod Johnson welcomed dozens of Carver guests into their home at Hickory Bluff overlooking Rowayton’s tranquel view of Long Island Sound. Volunteers and Atria Darien prepared a sumptuous meal for everyone to enjoy. Speakers this year included Mayor Harry Rilling; Carver graduates now in college; the longtime Carver partner and advocate Robert Pennington who was just named the new principal of Rowayton Elementary School; and Carver’s CEO, Novelette Peterkin.

Brookside Elementary School perfects Carver's new 5th grade after school model
This past school year, Brookside and Tracey Elementary Schools were the first schools to adopt Carver’s newest initiative, an after school program to prepare 5th graders for transition to their respective middle schools. Brookside’s principal, Sandra Faoies, serves on Carver’s Board of Directors. Carver honored Tracey’s principal, Theresa Rangel, at the 2019 Child of America gala.
The Art in STEAM Education after school at Brien McMahon High School
Carver after school students at Brien McMahon High School learn how to tie-dye t-shirts. The STEM to STEAM movement has been taking root across the country over the past several years and is surging forward as a positive mode of action to truly meet the needs of a 21st century economy. STEM alone misses several key components that many employers, educators, and parents have voiced as critical for our children to thrive in the present and rapidly approaching future.
