Maggie Brooks directed United States Figure Skating to award Carver a grant of $1,000 and visited with Carver kids this past Friday to share her experiences with them. See the photos of her visit here in a Facebook album.
U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States. U.S. Figure Skating is a member of the International Skating Union (ISU), the international federation for figure skating, and is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC). Maggie visited with Carver kids at the Carver Community Center last Friday to share her experiences and to let the Carver students hold one of her medals.
Maggie’s parents, Scott and Gretchen Brooks, have been longtime generous supporters and advocates of Carver, providing the environment and tools Carver students need for life success. Maggie Brooks, now a senior at Darien High School, is carrying on her family tradition in her ninth season skating for the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team that also represents the United States as a member of Team USA.
Skyliners has grown to be one of the top synchronized skating clubs in the country, winning 12 National Championships, 25 Eastern Championships, and placing 2nd at Junior Worlds in 2018, the first worlds medal ever for Team USA Junior. See more videos here. 2018 also marked the first year that the Senior line was chosen to represent Team USA at Senior Worlds. Both the Junior and Senior lines are designated Team USA, and represent the United States at international events. In the 2017-18 season, the Junior line captured the Gold medal at the Cup of Berlin, the Silver medal at the French Cup, 1st Place in the United States and 2th Place in the World in Zagreb, Croatia. The Senior line captured the Gold medal at the Cup of Berlin, Silver at the Mozart Cup in Austria, the Silver medal at Nationals and 9th in the World in Stockholm, Sweden.
More recent successes are described here. U.S. Figure Skating recently announced that Maggie and her team were selected to represent the United States at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships 2019 in Neuchatel, Switzerland, March 15-16, 2019.
All that success afforded Maggie Brooks the opportunity to name Carver as the beneficiary of the $1,000 grant awarded by US Figure Skating. Maggie’s personal story benefited Carver kids in the telling of it this past Friday. Carver has its own story to tell because caring people like Maggie and her parents invest so much of themselves in Carver’s mission to Build Lifetime Achievers!
