Our Keynote Speaker will be Tarik A. Brooks, Vice President, Office of the Chairman of Combs Enterprises. Mr. Brooks oversees the team that directly supports Chairman Sean “Diddy” Combs who received Carver’s Child of America award last year, and he serves as the primary interface across the Combs Enterprises companies and new business opportunities. Prior to Combs Enterprises, Tarik was the COO for the Account Management and Trading department at Bridgewater Associates. Mr. Brooks is a graduate of Howard University and Harvard Business School and he serves on the Carver Board Development Committee.

The Roton Middle School R.A.M.S. after school program runs Monday through Thursday from 3:00 to 5:30.  It is run by certified teachers and teaching aides from Roton Middle School.  The program Coordinator is Roton teacher Dean Vaccaro.

As part of a partnership effort with the Carver Foundation, Bankwell will be collecting new and “like new” luggage through Friday, April 5, at the 208 Elm St. and 156 Cherry St. branches in New Canaan and 370 Westport Ave. branch in Norwalk.

You may have heard that GuideStar and Foundation Center have joined forces. Now that they’ve become Candid, their commitment to promoting transparency is stronger than ever.

They have just released the 2019 Seals of Transparency on GuideStar, and Carver is one of the awardees. The Seal is a tangible way to demonstrate our organization’s commitment to transparency.

Carver volunteers introduced our students to their professions at Carver’s 13th Annual Career Fair.  Carver after school students were given the opportunity to engage with local professionals and ask all the questions they liked.

Chaperoned Carver students will soon board their chartered bus at the Carver Community Center for a life-changing road trip over their spring school break to the schools they aspire to attend.

This year we will be honoring Ms. Theresa Rangel, Principal of Tracey Elementary School, with our Child of America award. Under Ms. Rangel’s leadership, Tracey Elementary School is one of only 14 schools in the entire state to win “distinction” status this year for both high performance and high growth in ELA and Math, for all students and for high needs students. Ms. Rangel’s school is also recognized nationally for being a School of Character, one of the first to establish a definitive connection between social-emotional learning and student achievement.

In the closing seconds of the championship game at Mohegan Sun yesterday, they were tied at 53. Naeva Rene for the Norwalk Bears put the ball up and in. New London couldn’t get a shot off at the buzzer. Bears won 55 to 53.

The Norwalk High School Bears girls basketball team remains undefeated!  Since we last reported on their stunning success here, their continued victories have won them a #1 spot in this Saturday's Class LL state championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena at 3PM against #2 New London’s Lady Whalers.
