This week, we are thrilled to share the exciting progress of our 75 Carver middle school students at The Ecology School in Saco, Maine. The generous and inspired support of The Grossman Family Foundation has made this remarkable experience possible, enabling a transformative multi-year journey for our middle school students.

This week marks a significant milestone in our summer program as our 25 rising 7th and 25 rising 8th graders embark on their journey for the second and third time, respectively, to this unique and transformative educational setting. As is our tradition, this week, we welcome a new group of 25 first-time rising 6th graders to The Ecology School.

The Ecology School's hands-on approach to learning, which engages all five senses, allows students to discover the intricacies of nature in a truly immersive way. From the taste of freshly picked herbs to the feel of soil between their fingers, every moment spent at The Ecology School is designed to foster a profound connection with the environment.

The Summer Ecology Academy at River Bend Farm

This immersive, ecology-focused summer learning experience is designed for middle school-aged campers. During a week-long program, our campers explore and connect with the ecosystems that make up Maine’s unique ecology. The school’s team of experienced educators teaches daily adventures grounded in The Ecology School’s 25 years of ecological teaching. Campers explore with their field group daily and get to choose from various activities such as canoeing, nature Olympics, and art. Each day ends with gathering and reflection around the campfire.

A Look Back and Ahead

Every trip to The Ecology School offers new learning experiences for our students. They explore the forest and river ecosystems, gaining deeper insights into coastal areas. Past experiences have instilled in them a sense of responsibility and curiosity about the natural world. This year, our seasoned students are ready to mentor the new 6th graders, who will embark on their first trip to The Ecology School tomorrow.

We are proud of our student's growth and enthusiasm and grateful for the continued support that makes these enriching experiences possible. Here's to another week of discovery and connection with nature!
