Carver thanks all its volunteers on MLK Day and all through the year

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday next Monday, on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

Carver achieves its mission each year because of the hundreds of volunteers who are committed to our students’ success. Thank You!

The joyous Christmas Eve luncheon tradition continues at Carver

For some 15 years, Tremain Gilmore, Carver’s Teen Center Manager, organizes an annual community Christmas Eve luncheon for hundreds of people to celebrate the holiday together. This important event that engages more than 40 volunteers and many more donors offers a sumptuous banquet of hot food, free clothing, mountains of presents for one and all, and even face painting for the kids. A DJ keeps the merry music going and everyone informed and gifted. This year, the event took place on Saturday, December 21st.

Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund renews its support of Carver kids

In 2015, the YMCA Board of Trustees established the Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund to give back to the community and carry forward the legacy of Ruth Bedford. The endowed Fund supports one-year grants to local programs, such as Carver. Carver has benefited from this grant program since its inception, something for which the we are deeply grateful.

Students from the 11th grade class at St. Luke’s School delivered the magic and fun again this year for our kids and their families.

Campbell Snacks employees visited Carver to wrap literally a mountain of donated toys.

The gifts came from many friends, including the Rowayton Fire Department; St. Luke’s School; Person to Person; and the Children's Connection at the Human Services Council.

The staff of the Community Fund of Darien and the New Canaan Community Foundation decorated the Carver Community Center hours before the party.

The 11th Grade class of St. Luke’s School hosted the Holiday Party with music, games, face painting, delightful holiday refreshments, and even a magical Santa visiting from the North Pole to receive each of our children!

The staff of the Darien and New Canaan community foundations decorate Carver for the holidays

The Carver community greatly benefits from the very generous financial support the Community Fund of Darien and the New Canaan Community Foundation award us. But the staff go further in giving by working together for the benefit of our community. Today, they decorated the Carver Community Center gymnasium in preparation for our annual Holiday Party this evening.
