Character.org just designated Tracey Elementary School as a National School of Character. Tracey is the only school in the state of Connecticut to earn this national title, joining 87 schools and 3 districts in 24 states across the country. This follows the state character designation made earlier this year. Character.org will honor Tracey at the 2019 National Forum to be held Oct 24-27, 2019 in Washington, DC. Carver awarded the school’s principal, Theresa Rangel, with the Child of America award on May 3rd.
Carver Community Center breaks ground for its new playground!
a successful fundraising drive led by student volunteers, we are breaking ground on the new playground for the Carver Community Center. The interns from New Canaan High School planned and implemented this campaign.
Carver's aging playground was built for pre-kindergartgen children. What we are now building is a playground with all the latest safety and fun learning features for K-5 aged children, including a new padded surface that ties together all the pieces of our planned playground together.

We give thanks for our high school volunteers
Many volunteers give of their time and energy to Carver kids each year. These tutors, mentors, homework helpers, career counselors, and other skill-specific project leaders offer their support, feedback and student praise. The Carver Community Center utilizes volunteers for community events such as Career Fairs, talent contests, student and family awards ceremonies, holiday celebrations, and food drives. Corporate teams produce daylong events for our youth and generously undertake extensive renovation and cleanup projects. Our student volunteers are especially helpful to our CASPER (K-5) kids at the Carver Community Center. Today there were four high school students: Nadia Torees, Emily Becerril and Sebastian Samperez, each 10th graders from Norwalk High School, and Samantha Cioffi, a 12th grader from Holy Child School in Rye, NY.
The Carver Spring Tour's final school: Miles College
By Luis A. Guaillas, 11th grader at Brien McMahon - I have the distinct pleasure of sharing my experience of touring Miles College located in Fairfield, Alabama. This was the last college we visited on the Carver Spring Tour. There was no mistaking the colors representing Miles College – purple and gold were prominently displayed everywhere. From our formal presentation we learned that the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church founded Miles College in 1898. It’s well known as a historically black liberal arts college and a Christian school. There are approximately 1,500 students enrolled.
Carver students visit the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta
By Anthony W. Mayhew Jr., 11th Grader at Brien McMahon High School – Savannah College of Art and Design, affectionately known as SCAD, has its main campus in Savannah, Georgia and multiple locations for students in Atlanta, Hong Kong and even the South of France. SCAD was founded in 1978 and its doors officially opened in 1979, making it a relatively young school. Today, we visited the Atlanta, Georgia campus in the heart of the city. As we stroll to meet our tour guide we passed by students with purple hair, expressive outfits and confident self-expressions. As we entered the building where our tour guide was awaiting us, we knew very quickly that we were in an environment filled with creative minds.
