Here is encouraging news from Norwalk Public Schools.

There is so much creative thinking taking place across the district! Principals, teachers and staff members are finding imaginative ways to connect with students and their families. Live, online story times, YouTube videos, spirit weeks and much more are keeping school communities together during Distance Learning.

Here are just a few of the many examples out there of the outstanding work that is going on:

• The Norwalk Early Childhood Center staff is holding daily circle time via a private Facebook page for students.

• Gina Ditrio, districtwide teacher of the deaf, has created a YouTube channel for students to experience favorite books in sign language.

• Naramake students are greeted with morning announcements video style.

• Silvermine Dual Language Magnet offers “Silvermine Reads” on YouTube in English and Spanish, in alignment with their dual language program.

• Columbus Magnet has an active Facebook group, as well as Columbus en Espanol.  

• The West Rocks Middle School staff created a video to inspire and bring happiness to their students.

• Norwalk High School broadcast and journalism students have put together their first episode of Distance Learning Bear Country News.

• Marvin teachers organized a "car parade" through student neighborhoods to wave and give a shout out to families. Fox Run, Jefferson and Roton have also organized similar events.

• Wolfpit Mascot "Scout" drove through neighborhoods to say hello and promote school pride.

• Officer Christopher Holms, an SRO, DARE Coordinator and head advisor for the Norwalk Public Safety Cadets made a video to share a story with his students. 

• The Tracey staff brings smiles to students and families each week with a dance and a song.

• The Brien McMahon faculty and staff produced an uplifting video called "Senator Strong" with the help of Library Media Specialists Ms. Boyd and Mr. Meli.
