Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is producing the famed Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, “South Pacific,” for one night only in a unique collaboration with actors and singers of New Paradigm Theatre of Stamford.

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program (the photo) is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining.

Founded in 1939, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (NSO) is a passionate group of musicians serving Norwalk and its neighboring towns in Fairfield County.

In the (Not) Just For Kids program, members of the NSO orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour long presentations. Throughout the season presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. These after-school events are held at at the Norwalk City Hall.

For one night only, Saturday, February 8th, NSO is presenting a “South Pacific”-themed dinner and a concert along with an IMAX movie in Norwalk. The “midwinter tropical escape” has three parts: The highlight is a concert with Broadway actors and NSO performing songs from the musical “South Pacific”; also, a prix fixe dinner at one of several Norwalk restaurants; and before all that, an IMAX movie at the Maritime Aquarium, “Journey to the South Pacific” will be presented twice in the afternoon.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Norwalk City Hall’s Concert Hall. This concert adaptation was created by David Ives for the Carnegie Hall benefit concert of “South Pacific” in 2006.
