Carver’s annual Breakfast With Champions introduces our community’s young people and their parents to leaders in an array of professions. Carver students are inspired to pursue their interests and encouraged to use these years in school to prepare for satisfying careers.

Special thanks to our panelists: Joniran Boone, a sales and marketing manager in the pharmaceutical industry; Tori Brown, a chef, caterer and event planner; Renita Crawford, a Carver alumna since Kindergarten and now, after pursuing several careers, a Norwalk high school teacher; Allan Houston, retired NBA player, including the NBA All-Star Team twice and the gold-medal-winning U.S. men's basketball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics; Carl Michel, published author and motivational speaker; and Andrew Sawyer, an account manager for a technology company serving athletic directors and coaches.
Scotty Nails, a coach at Rye Country Day School, introduced our keynote speaker, Mr. Houston. Mr. Houston also founded FISLL (faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership and legacy), a mentoring initiative for youth across the country.
Carver’s Tremain Gilmore and Jackie C. Roberson organized the event and, as always, their light is so bright that Carver kids never feel that they are in the dark.
The professionals spoke to our young people and answered their questions as part of this annual forum at the George Washington Carver Community Center for middle, high and college school students.
The goal of this program is to gather "champions of the community" and have them inspire teens, according to Tremain Gilmore, a Carver program manager. "I just hope they use this as a spark to get them to where they want to be in life," he said.
