Spelman College! The Carver Spring College Tour makes new discoveries!

Spelman College is a private, liberal arts women's college located in Atlanta, Georgia, founded in 1881. The school is named after John D. Rockefeller’s wife, Laura Spelman Rockefeller and is part of the Atlanta University Center academic consortium in Atlanta. Spelman College is America's oldest private historically black liberal arts college for women.

The competitive admission criteria include a GPA of 3.8 and SAT score of 1212. The student body presents more than 41 states and there are currently over 2,100 students enrolled in Spelman. The cost of room and board is $13,865, and for tuition and fees it’s $29,064.

Spelman is a well-known prestigious institution. It is a gem for African American young woman. Each year, many students with diverse goals and aspirations enter Spelman and start their unique cultural and academic journeys that are rooted in excellence. An extraordinary faculty, staff and alumnae provide support throughout their journeys. This is an environment that promotes true sisterhood. Spelman has many notable alumni such as Alice Walker, Stacey Abrams, and Bernice King, Dr. Martin Luther King’s daughter.

Spelman College provides a variety of majors and offers strong academic programs including arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics and the sciences. Students can travel abroad to participate in service projects or conduct research through internships.

These rich experiences help students as they develop their leadership style and confidence, which also provide distinction as they navigate their way with impact through corporate boardrooms, government agencies and community organizations. The goal of Spelman is to provide a standard of excellence that supports its strategic vision.
