Carver students compete in Robotics competition (New 12 CT coverage): Ponus Lego Legends win! Carver fielded robotics teams from Nathan Hale, Ponus, Roton, and West Rocks Middle Schools, as well as Side by Side Charter School. The Ponus Lego Legends team won and advanced to the round of the FIRST Lego competition.
Carver after-school robotics teams had a great time participating with middle school students from all over southwestern Connecticut who were competing in the annual FIRST Lego League robotics tournament at the Greenwich Academy this past Saturday. The students used Legos powered by robotics to send their creations through obstacle courses.
Carver students were given the opportunity to showcase their skills and express their creativity in a variety of ways. There are levels of friendly competition, as well as opportunities for students to display their unique robotic creations.
At Greenwich Academy, an all-girls preparatory day school in southern Connecticut, they have embraced the S.T.E.A.M. initiative which has become so prevalent in many schools around the country. Including robotics in the daily lives of their students has allowed their girls to learn more about engineering and computer programming as they develop their confidence and team-building skills.
Working together towards a common goal has benefitted both the students and the faculty involved in many ways.
All of the students in their robotics program have been able to work with other students and schools in the area such as Carver kids in order to better their skills, meet others that share their passions and increase their knowledge of robotics and engineering.
Since the winter of 2009, Greenwich Academy has hosted an all-ages local robotics expo called ROBOnanza! This event is where area teams, students, and schools can showcase their robotic skills and compete in a friendly atmosphere. Additionally, the younger grades continue to participate in various expos in the tri-state area.
It continues to be a positive experience for all those involved. Carver kids love this event, too!
