Our call for Courage as unemployment soars to historic highs

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns have led to unprecedented economic costs around the world.

The coronavirus has touched every aspect of our lives, especially our Carver community families.

Just today, we learned that another 2.1 million unemployment claims were filed last week, pushing the total past 40 million.

This is the equivalent of one out of every four American workers. This level of unemployment is far above historic highs.

Through disorienting, even dizzying, change, we have been heartened by the way that you have responded with grit and determination, as well as a deep concern for others. Much of what we are doing during the pandemic, such as our program to provide financial assistance to distressed families, is a direct result of gifts and ideas you bring to us.

We’re not just in a holding pattern any longer. We’re on our way somewhere new, and we don’t yet fully know what it looks like. As we continue to provide after-school programming and social-emotional support to all our students virtually, we are making plans now for summer camp and a “return” to school in the fall.

One image the Carver community is committed to uphold come what may, is COURAGE. We created the interactive digital Courage Mosaic to live on as an abiding statement about our commitment as a community to always find the courage to support and encourage each other.

The Courage image will not be complete without the image and message you can bring to it. Please upload your Courage message today.
